Every three years, the city of New Orleans hosts the Art extravaganza Prospect and this year “The Future is Present the Harbinger is Here”, is the theme that highlights the challenges the city has with systemic wrongs taking time to self correct. At the Corentyne Cottage for Prospect 6 we introduced a “A Force of Nature”, a hopeful exhibit of botanicals, and special human beings that challenge us with their ideology : that the power of one is possible and changes can happen not only collectively but individually. The Corentyne Cottage is showcasing works from its collection which highlights artists from all over the world,. On the upper level you can see works of Souad el Rassoul , Cisco Ndombe all of the Saars , Alison, Lezley, and the venerable Betye Saar to highlight a few.
On the lower level in the gallery emerging artists blend with veterans to display an array of ideas and themes that are nature bound whether psychological or botanical. Also included is one young artist just out of university, college or art school working or studying in New Orleans. This year we’ve chosen from the NOCCA school to showcase the work of ——— Also showing are artists Firelei Baez, Kiné Aw, Tadesse Mesfin one of the premier artists from Ethiopia , the wonderful Mexican artist Narcisco Martinez, sculptures by Kenzi Shiokava and there is even a very large art piece from master Guyanese artist Victor Davson that we are so proud to have the room ( just barely!) to display which round out the exhibition. The show will be up during the summer of 2025 with a new exhibit in September. We hope you get a chance to come by and visit; by appointment only.
